Vivekananda Kendra was started in 1972 by the visionary Eknath Ranade at Kanyakumari as a spiritually-oriented service mission to spread the vital, vigorous, man-making and nation-building message of Swami Vivekananda along the length and breadth of the country with the help of a team of devoted, determined and dedicated life workers . hrough its 813 activity centres, Vivekananda Kedra has taken up projects in the field of education, rural development, natural resource development and health care with focus area in geo-politically remote and sensitive regions.
In course of the Kendra’s multifarious developmental activities, it has been realized that the rich and glorious cultural heritage of India should be diligently and continuously nursed and nourished among the among the target groups, which can rightly serve as a springboard to dive into the future of the country. With this end in view Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) was started in 1993 in Guwahati as the north-east India had been the focus of Kendra’s activities over the past two decades since the inception of the Kendra. VKIC has envisioned its role as the intellectual fountainhead for India’s North-East and has been trying to understand the richness of our traditional systems and identify the unifying elements that bind us through seminars, documentation, research etc.
With positive experience of VKIC, Vivekananda Kendra Academy for Indian Culture, Yoga And Management (VK AICYAM) has rightly been started in Bhubaneswar in the birth centenary year of Eknath Ranade as a project of Vivekananda Kendra- Kanyakumari envisaging activities in the fields of Indian culture, Yoga and Management to contribute to the global mission of India. The activities of the academy will be:
1: To enrich, promote and strengthen the cultural traditions and art forms of different Janajati communities of Eastern India as well as to bring forth their unique attributes and nourish the commonalities.
2: To expand the awareness and benefits of YOGA and its application for holistic living and bringing harmony in the changing social dynamics.
3: To organize courses for administrators, professionals and youths in holistic management based on relevant essence from Indian scriptures like Vedanta, Bhagabat Gita and Arthasastra etc.
“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.”
